With tax, you have to endeavor to get it right, when this is not done; the impact is enormous because it means loss of money in form of tax.

The role played by tax lawyers has to be accorded the position it deserves in the area of business in general and tax in particular.  Getting the right advice will, invariably, save your useful time, let alone the money you would spend over the long term.

Tax planning relates to taking the appropriate decision, including choosing the best structure for your business, changing your business structure where business needs have changed, planning in advance of any sale or purchase.  This is in essence is a process that does not stop.  In business, each transaction you have in mind, or a transaction actually carried out, has tangible tax consequences; when you have the appropriate tax advice. So tax planning is not tax evasion.

However, all this is possible if there has been some level of disclosure of the nature of business to the tax experts, but if you keep silent, or you do not engage a tax practitioner, then you will not be able to reap from the above. However, the practice is that businesses seek tax advice at a wrong time. What some business do, (though we do not approve this practice) is that they approach you when they have received an assessment notice, which is sometimes late and making the necessary adjustments becomes practically hard.
